You can now update your Global Entry name online — here's how to do it fast.

Quick Answer

To change your name on Global Entry, submit an online request at help.cbp.gov by selecting "Trusted Traveler Program" → "Update documents in my account" → "TTP: Global Entry," then upload a color photocopy of your updated passport. Online name changes take 3–8 weeks to process. Alternatively, visit any Global Entry Enrollment Center in person with your Global Entry card, updated U.S. passport, and legal name change document (marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order) — no appointment required, and the update is immediate. The name update is free; a replacement Global Entry card costs $25.

Did you recently go through a legal name change (marriage, divorce, or court-ordered) and need to update your name on your Global Entry membership?

We receive so many inquiries from NewlyNamed customers about whether and how to update their Global Entry card after changing their name. For the most part, the answer is yes — you should update your Global Entry membership to reflect your new name. There are a few cases where you'll want to wait, and we explain why below.

Luckily, Global Entry now allows online name changes, which makes the process much easier. At NewlyNamed, we've guided 500k+ customers through name changes since 2019, including Global Entry updates in every U.S. state. This guide reflects the current 2026 CBP process.

What is Global Entry?

Global Entry is a Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that provides expedited customs clearance at 70+ U.S. airports and includes TSA PreCheck at more than 200 domestic airports. Membership costs $120 and lasts 5 years.

What you'll need for your Global Entry name change

  1. Your Global Entry card.
  2. You must have physical possession of a U.S. Passport in your new legal name. Our passport name change guide will help you if you still need to update your passport.
  3. Your official legal name change document (marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order).

NewlyNamed Tip #1: If you received TSA PreCheck through your Global Entry membership, your TSA PreCheck membership will update automatically after your name is updated with Global Entry!

💡 Before you update Global Entry, is the rest of your name change taken care of?

Global Entry is one of 30+ places you need to update your name after marriage. A NewlyNamed Box or Print at Home name change kit handles all of them — personalized to your state and accounts.

How do you change your name on Global Entry online?

To update your Global Entry name online, go to help.cbp.gov, click "Ask a Question," select "Trusted Traveler Program" as the topic, choose "Update documents in my account" as the applicable issue, and select "TTP: Global Entry" as the program. In the description, type "name change on account" and attach a color photocopy of your updated passport showing your new name. CBP will send a confirmation email with a case number, and the update typically takes 3–8 weeks to process.

  1. Visit help.cbp.gov and click "Ask a Question."
  2. Under "Topic," select Trusted Traveler Program.
  3. Under "Applicable Issue," select Update documents in my account.
  4. Under "TCC Program," select TTP: Global Entry.
  5. Under "Description," type name change on account.
  6. Attach a color photocopy of your updated passport showing your new name.
  7. You'll receive a confirmation email from CBP with your case number. Processing takes 3–8 weeks.

If for some reason CBP can't process your request electronically, you may be directed to visit an enrollment center in person to complete the update.

If you're working through a full name change after marriage, a NewlyNamed name change kit handles Social Security, passport, DMV, and everything else — so your Global Entry update is just one box to check.

How do you change your name on Global Entry in person?

  1. Start by calling your nearest Global Entry Enrollment Center.
  2. Ask a CBP officer if they can process your name change request over the phone. If they cannot, you'll need to show up in person. Thankfully, no appointment is necessary — you can visit during normal business hours.
  3. Visit the Enrollment Center with your Global Entry card, your new U.S. Passport (in your new name), and your official legal name change document (marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order).
  4. Present your documents to an officer to update your name. You aren't required to purchase a new Global Entry card if you're OK with your old name being on it. A replacement card in your new name costs $25.
  5. Your name will be updated in the Trusted Traveler Program database immediately, allowing you to use Global Entry with your new name and passport. As an added bonus, your name will also be updated with TSA PreCheck!

NewlyNamed Tip #2: If there's an enrollment center at an airport you'll be traveling out of soon, show up extra early before your flight and do your Global Entry name change then.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my name on Global Entry online?

Yes. As of 2024, CBP allows Global Entry name changes to be submitted online at help.cbp.gov. Select "Trusted Traveler Program" → "Update documents in my account" → "TTP: Global Entry," describe the request as a name change, and upload a color photocopy of your updated passport. Processing takes 3–8 weeks. For faster service, visit a Global Entry Enrollment Center in person — the update is immediate.

How long does a Global Entry name change take?

In person at an Enrollment Center, the update is immediate. Online through help.cbp.gov, it typically takes 3–8 weeks to process.

Do I need an appointment for a Global Entry name change?

No. Global Entry Enrollment Centers accept walk-ins during normal business hours for name changes. Call ahead to confirm hours at your nearest location.

Do I need to update Global Entry if my name has changed?

Yes. If you've updated your passport to reflect your new legal name, you must update Global Entry. Global Entry won't work if your name in the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) database doesn't match the name on your passport. You can update your name online at help.cbp.gov or in person at any Global Entry Enrollment Center.

Will updating my name with Global Entry also update TSA PreCheck?

Yes! Updating your name with Global Entry will also update TSA PreCheck — but not the other way around. If you have both Trusted Traveler Programs, make sure to update Global Entry first. If you only have TSA PreCheck, you can learn more about updating your TSA PreCheck name here.

Does my Global Entry Number (CBP PASS ID) or Known Traveler Number (KTN) change after I update my name?

No — your PASS ID / KTN stays the same. For Global Entry members, your CBP PASS ID does not change after you update your name with Global Entry. Your PASS ID is the same number as your KTN, so you don't need to update your PASS ID or KTN in any of your airline loyalty accounts.

Does a Global Entry name change cost money?

No. Updating your name on your Global Entry membership is free. If you want a replacement Global Entry card with your new name on it, that costs $25 — but the name update itself has no fee.

Do I need a new Global Entry card after changing my name?

No, you don't need to purchase a new Global Entry card. If you would like your Global Entry card to match your new name, you can pay the $25 replacement fee to have a new card created.

What about NEXUS or SENTRI name changes?

NEXUS and SENTRI name changes follow a similar process but are handled through their respective Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) channels. You'll need the same documentation (updated passport and legal name change document) and can typically submit the request online through help.cbp.gov by selecting the relevant program, or visit a NEXUS/SENTRI Enrollment Center in person.

I updated my name with Global Entry. What should I do next?

Now that you've updated your Global Entry membership to match your new name, it's time to update all of your frequent flyer programs so they sync with your Trusted Traveler Programs (Global Entry and TSA PreCheck). A complete NewlyNamed kit includes step-by-step instructions for updating your name across 4,000+ organizations in our database — including airline loyalty programs.

Do I need to update airline frequent flyer programs?

Yes. Be sure to update your name on all airline accounts so they match your passport and Global Entry info. This helps avoid issues with TSA PreCheck and boarding passes.

Where can I learn more about Global Entry and other Trusted Traveler Programs?

CBP has put together an informative summary of all Trusted Traveler Programs on the official TTP website.

In summary, Global Entry is a valuable program for international travelers, and we recommend updating it to reflect your new name. It's easy to update and will save you time and frustration when re-entering the United States.
